IndiGo passengers suffer harrowing flight due to AC failure

Passengers suffered on the IndiGo flight from Chandigarh to Jaipur due to AC failure. Punjab Congress President Raja Warring shared the ordeal, sparking safety and airline response concerns.

Passengers aboard an IndiGo flight from Chandigarh to Jaipur experienced an uncomfortable journey as the aircraft’s air conditioning system failed, subjecting them to soaring temperatures throughout the flight. The incident came to light through social media posts by Punjab Congress Committee President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, who shared his own encounter aboard flight 6E7261. This unsettling incident highlights concerns over passenger safety and raises questions about the airline’s response to technical issues.

The passengers waited in scorching heat for around 10-15 minutes. Upon entering the aircraft, travellers quickly realized that the air conditioning was not functioning, subjecting them to a 90-minute journey without relief from the heat. Despite the uncomfortable conditions, the flight took off and continued its course, with passengers left to endure the sweltering cabin temperature.

Warring took to social media to share his frustration, criticizing the airline’s inadequate response and lack of resolution to the problem. He described the flight as “one of the most horrifying experiences,” emphasizing that from takeoff to landing, passengers were left to “suffer” without air conditioning. In a gesture to mitigate the discomfort, the air hostesses distributed tissue papers to help passengers wipe off their sweat.

This incident was one of three technical issues reported on IndiGo flights that day. Another flight bound for Delhi was forced to make an emergency landing at Patna airport due to an engine malfunction, while a flight en route to Ranchi returned to Delhi airport shortly after takeoff due to a technical glitch.

The absence of proper air conditioning on an aircraft is a significant concern as it affects cabin pressure, heating, cooling, and ventilation, all crucial for passenger comfort. The incident has raised questions about the airline’s maintenance practices and its response to such situations.

Amarinder Singh Raja Warring expressed his disappointment and called upon the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to take decisive action against the airline to prevent the recurrence of such distressing incidents. Passengers’ well-being and safety remain paramount, and incidents like these underscore the importance of stringent oversight and immediate resolution in aviation operations.
