US and India are in discussions to send an Indian astronaut to the International Space Station in 2024
In June, when Modi visited the US, Biden declared that the US and India would work together to deploy an astronaut to the international space station in 2024.
After the marvellous success of Chandarayan-3 and the launch Aditya-L1 solar mission, India may be about to accomplish something more in the field of space. A strategy framework for human space flight will be put in place by year’s end, India and the US announced on Friday, as they intend to send an Indian astronaut to the International Space Station in 2024. US President Joe Biden also congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the historic landing of Chandrayaan-3 at the south polar region of the Moon and the success of the Aditya-L1 solar mission.
According to a report by PTI, “Determined to deepen our partnership in outer space exploration, ISRO and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) have commenced discussions on modalities, capacity building, and training for mounting a joint effort to the international space station in 2024, and are continuing efforts to finalise a strategic framework for human space flight cooperation by the end of 2023,” said a joint statement issued after the 52-minute talks between the leaders.
The statement went on to say that India and the US also intended to improve their planetary defence coordination to shield the earth and space assets from asteroids and other near-Earth objects.
India astronaut joins Moon and Mars Exploration pact
According to the source, India’s decision to ratify the Artemis Accords, a collection of non-binding principles built on the 1967 Outer Space Treaty, was announced by Prime Minister Modi. The United States led the Accords, which act as a framework for civil space exploration in the twenty-first century. The Artemis Accords is an American-led effort to return humans to the moon by 2050, with the ultimate goal of expanding space exploration to Mars and beyond.
Gaganyaan, India’s first manned spacecraft, will be launched into low-Earth orbit by the end of 2024 or the beginning of 2025. The Gaganyaan project may be completed before an Indian astronaut visits the International Space Station.
