India has established itself as a prominent center for scholarly research, (global research hub) securing the fourth rank globally in the production of academic publications. This advancement is highlighted by The Times of India, referencing Ben Sowter of Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), a notable authority in higher education analytics that annually ranks universities.
The QS World University Rankings 2024 by subject, which were unveiled recently, feature sixty-nine Indian universities. Jawaharlal Nehru University has distinguished itself as the highest-ranked Indian university, securing the 20th position worldwide in development studies.
In the sphere of management studies, the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad is recognized among the top 25 institutions on a global scale, with IIM Bangalore and IIM Calcutta ranking within the top 50.
For data science, the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati has achieved a commendable global ranking in the range of 51-70. The Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences in Chennai has been ranked 24th worldwide in the field of dentistry.
This year, the QS World University Rankings by subject include 69 Indian universities with a total of 424 entries, an increase from last year’s 66 universities and 355 entries.
According to QS, the 20th edition of the QS World University Rankings encompasses 1,500 institutions across 104 locations, uniquely emphasizing employability and sustainability. These rankings are based on the analysis of 17.5 million academic papers and the input of over 240,000 academic faculty and employers.
The Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the United States continues to lead the rankings for the twelfth consecutive year, followed by the University of Cambridge and the University of Oxford in second and third places, respectively.
