Family selfie invites trouble for Uttar Pradesh cop, immediate probe and transfer ordered

Posing with bundles of currency notes, a supposed indication of being wealthy, has recently been a social media trend for teenagers in India.

Yet another social media trend has invited trouble for a family in Uttar Pradesh. In a selfie viral on the internet, the wife and kids of police officer Ramesh Chandra Sahani can be seen flaunting almost 27 stacks of Rs 500 currency notes.

Posing with bundles of currency notes, a supposed indication of being wealthy, has recently been a social media trend for teenagers in India. Soon after this selfie took the internet by storm, an investigation was immediately launched by Superintendent of Police Siddharth Shankar Meena.

Talking about the viral photo, Siddharth Shankar said, “A photograph of a Station House Officer is going viral on social media. It shows the cop’s wife and his children with bundles of currency notes. We have taken cognisance of the matter and the cop has been transferred to the police line. An investigation has been launched.”

The ongoing investigation is led by Pankaj Singh, the Bangarmau circle officer (CO). Sahani’s family members were seen sitting with bundles of Rs 500 currency notes and a probe is on in the matter, he said. The police, however, have not given an exact figure of the currency, but it is expected to be over Rs 13 lakhs.

The uproar led to an immediate transfer of Ramesh, posted as  the Station House offer (SHO) of Behta Mujawar police station, to the police lines.

Defending the viral selfie, Ramesh said that the photograph was shot on November 14, 2021, when he sold a piece of his family land.
