WFI Chief Brij Bhushan molested and stalked wrestlers, liable to be punished: Delhi Police

In the charge sheet filed by Delhi Police before the court on June 13, it said BJP MP and outgoing WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh was 'liable to be prosecuted and punished for offences'

Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the President of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), has been categorically indicted by the Delhi Police on charges of sexual harassment, molestation, and stalking as per a report by Indian Express.

The chargesheet, dated June 13 and based on the ongoing investigation, asserts that Singh is “liable to be prosecuted and punished” for these offenses. The Delhi Police has invoked Sections 506 (criminal intimidation), 354 (outraging modesty of a woman), 354A (sexual harassment), and 354D (stalking) in relation to the complaints filed by six top wrestlers.

The chargesheet reveals that one of the cases highlights Singh’s repeated and continuing harassment. If convicted, these offenses carry a maximum prison term of five years.

In the chargesheet, the Delhi Police has requested the court to summon Singh and the witnesses involved. The chargesheet states, “The accused may please be summoned to face trial, and witnesses named in the list of witnesses appended with the chargesheet may be called for their examination along with documents mentioned with their names.”

The chargesheet also highlights that the investigators interviewed 108 witnesses, including wrestlers, coaches, and referees. Among them, 15 witnesses corroborated the allegations made by the wrestlers, providing further support to their claims.

While Singh remained unavailable for comment, an annexure in the chargesheet reveals that during his questioning by the Delhi Police, he denied all allegations. Singh claimed that he had never met the wrestlers and did not possess their phone numbers.

The wrestlers’ complaints encompass a total of 15 incidents of sexual harassment, including ten instances of inappropriate touching, as well as multiple cases of intimidation and stalking.

The chargesheet presented by the Delhi Police includes corroborative statements from witnesses, validating the specific allegations made by the six wrestlers.

This development has serious implications for the Wrestling Federation of India and its President, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. As the legal proceedings move forward, the court will examine the evidence and witness testimonies, determining the course of action in this high-profile case.
