Assam Flood: 2/3rd districts under flood water, over 1 million people affected amidst pandemic

A population of 6,01,456 are displaced in 24 districts of the state with millions affected. 1,109 villages of 49 revenue circle are reeling under floodwaters. Around 8,474 people are taking shelter in 92 relief camps opened up by respective district administration stated a latest bulletin by Assam State Disaster Management Authority.

This wave of flood have also submerged 82,546,82 hectare of crop area besides affecting 4,24,127 animals including poultry. Now with the Meteorological department predicting more rainfall in the next 48 hours,the flood situation in Assam is likely to be more critical.

A severe flood warning has been issued in Assam and neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh after water levels of the Brahmaputra River crossed the danger mark. Heavy rainfall is likely till July 16, the India Meteorological Department (IMD), has said in its latest bulletin.

The state disaster management body said, extensive floods have been reported in Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Sonitpur, Udalguri, Darrang, Baksa, Nalbari, Barpeta, Chirang, Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, Dhubri, Goalpara, Kamrup, Morigaon, Nagaon, West Karbi Anglong, Golaghat, Jorhat, Majuli, Sivasagar, Dibrugarh and Tinsukia districts.

The floods have claimed 48 lives so far in the state besides 2 others killed in landslides. Over 21 thousand people are taking shelter in 224 relief camps opened up by respective district administration.2015 villages of 75 Revenue Circles in 24 out of the total 33 districts of the state are reeling under floodwaters.
