Vir Das secures International Emmy for Netflix special ‘Vir Das: Landing’

Stand-up comedian and actor Vir Das, along with Season 3 of Derry Girls, won the prestigious International Emmy Award for Comedy at the 2023 International Emmy Awards. Vir Das secured the honor for his Netflix comedy special, “Vir Das: Landing,” marking his second International Emmy nomination. In the competitive category, Das and Derry Girls shared the nomination spotlight with France’s “Le Flambeau” and Argentina’s “El Encargado.”

Vir Das, recognized as a trailblazer in India’s contemporary stand-up comedy landscape, has left a mark with his extensive repertoire, featuring over 100 stand-up performances and numerous stand-up specials. In addition to his comedic prowess, Das has showcased his acting talents in more than 15 films, further solidifying his versatile presence in the entertainment industry.

The performance delved into the dualities of the country, tackling subjects like the response to Covid-19, air pollution, farmers’ agitation, cricket, and incidents of rape.

“Winning an Emmy for Vir Das: Landing in the Comedy Category is not just a milestone for me but for Indian comedy as a whole. Vir Das is primarily known for his stand-up specials. In addition to his success in the stand-up scene, he has left a mark in the film industry with appearances in movies like Delhi Belly, Go Goa Gone, Shaadi Ke Side Effects, among others. His versatility extends to the streaming world, where he was featured in the Netflix movie Hasmukh, a project in which he also contributed as a co-writer.
