Kishtwar gets its first movie theatre after three decades

The district, once broken by terror attacks, finally gets a beacon of entertainment.

The Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir got its first digital theatre after 33 years. The theatre was inaugurated by Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha, who congratulated the local administration and people along with the stakeholders on the return of movie culture to the place, stated a press release.

After being plagued by terrorism for years, Kishtwar can finally boast about the movie theatre which includes 120 premium reclining seats, a quality sound system, and an HD screen that guarantees a super experience for everyone watching.

Kishtwar has been without a cinema hall since the 1990s, a place that was home to video parlours like 3 Star, Sangam, Sheeza, and Nadeem fell victim to the vile conspiracies of terrorism, depriving the community, which once used to indulge in cinematic experiences regularly, even the sight of a theatre.

However, times have changed for good at Kishtwar, as a resilient initiative headed by the Deputy Commissioner of Kishtwar, Devansh Yadav has finally helped the place get its first theatre.

“With a seating capacity of up to 120 individuals, the theatre will facilitate skill enhancement activities such as business process outsourcing (BPO) training, attending lectures from technical experts, and completing courses offered by Mission Youth. “Through this initiative, the cinema will be taken to the far-flung areas of the hilly district Kishtwar benefiting each section of society to unlock new vistas of entertainment, enlightenment, and social cohesion,” he said.

The Lt Governor added, “Significant steps like film policy, the opening of cinema halls in the districts have created a vibrant film ecosystem in the Union Territory. Today, Jammu and Kashmir has become the most preferred destination for filmmakers and more than 300 movies and web series were filmed last year.” He also said that three more theatres will open soon in different parts of Jammu & Kashmir.
