Andhra Pradesh CM Reddy distributes free education kits to 43 lakh students

Students in government and aided schools will receive kits that include bilingual textbooks, notebooks, and three sets of uniforms.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has taken a significant step towards supporting education by distributing free kits to over 43 lakh students in the Palnadu district. The distribution took place on June 12 at Krosuru village as part of the ‘Jagananna Vidya Kanuka’ scheme. These kits, valued at Rs 1,043 crore, are aimed at students attending government and aided schools.

Each kit includes essential educational materials such as bilingual textbooks, notebooks, workbooks, uniforms (three pairs), shoes (one pair), socks (two pairs), a belt, school bag, an English-Telugu dictionary (for students in sixth to tenth standards), and a pictorial dictionary (for students in first to fifth standards).

During a public meeting, Chief Minister Reddy expressed his happiness in providing these kits to students before the academic year begins. He emphasized that the government is committed to ensuring that no child or their parents face difficulties in procuring necessary items like books and uniforms. The ‘Jagananna Vidya Kanuka’ scheme has been successfully implemented for the fourth consecutive year, demonstrating the government’s dedication to supporting students.

To facilitate better understanding of the subjects, the textbooks are designed in a bilingual format. They contain English content on one page and its translated Telugu version on the opposite page, enabling students to navigate, compare, observe, and absorb the material more easily.

Chief Minister Reddy highlighted the financial commitment made by the state towards the scheme, with expenditure of Rs 648 crore in 2020-21, Rs 789 crore in 2021-22, Rs 887 crore in 2022-23, and Rs 1,043 crore in 2023-24. This totals to a significant amount of Rs 3,367 crore dedicated to the ‘Jagananna Vidya Kanuka’ initiative.

In addition to the kit distribution, Chief Minister Reddy announced the allocation of Rs 45 crore for a lift irrigation project at Talla Cheruvu. He also promised to provide a resettlement and rehabilitation (R&R) package for 128 displaced families who were previously left out of the Pulichintala Project R&R package. Furthermore, he laid the foundation for a high-level bridge worth Rs 60 crore at Madinapadu and inaugurated a government polytechnic college at Krosuru.

The ‘Jagananna Vidya Kanuka’ scheme aims to alleviate the financial burden on students and promote equal access to education across Andhra Pradesh. With these kits, the state government is ensuring that students have the necessary resources to embark on their academic journey successfully.
