Ola Electric sells scooters worth Rs 600 cr in 24 hrs, 4 units every second

The ola electric scooter can be purchased only on the Ola App, with a booking option that of Rs 499 and an advance payment of Rs 20,000.

Ola Electric on Thursday (16 September) announced that it has sold e-scooters worth 600 core in a day, since Wednesday when the purchase window was opened.

“We sold 4 scooters every second! Infact in just 24 hours, we sold scooters worth over 600 crores! That’s more, in value terms, than what the entire 2W industry sells in a day! Make no mistake, the age of EVs is here,” the company said in a statement

The firm in July announced that its electric scooter has received a record-breaking 100,000 reservations within the first 24 hours, making it the most pre-booked scooter in the world. The electric scooter, which comes in two trims – Ola S1 and S1 -, is available to purchase on the Ola App only currently, and not on the website.

The aforesaid value (Rs600 crore) includes buyers who paid the additional Rs20,o00 to get their bookings confirmed after paying Rs500 as the token amount. It also includes the new set of buyers who would have booked the model in the last few days. A back-of-the envelope translates it into bookings of 50,000 units.

With prices starting from Rs 99,999 (excluding state government incentives, registration fee, and insurance cost), Ola’s e-scooter rivals electric two-wheeler makers, such as Ather Energy, Hero Electric, Bajaj’s Chetak, and TVS Motor Company.

In addition to the sale of electric scooters, Ola is also planning on installing around 1 lakh charging stations across 400 cities in India. This will include the installation of hyper-charging stations, which will be installed in major metro cities.
