Sensex gains for 5th day in a row, settles over 46,100 first time ever; Nifty tops 13,500
Continuing its record-breaking streak, the domestic equity market scaled yet another milestone on Wednesday amid broad-based buying and positive global cues.
Sensex closed at 46,103.50, up 494.99 points or 1.09%, while Nifty ended 136.15 points or 1.02% higher at 13,529.10.
Asian Paints, closing over 3% higher, was the top Sensex gainer followed by Kotak Bank, HDFC Bank, Infosys, Axis Bank and RIL. Ultratech Cement, Tata Steel, Maruti, SBI and Bajaj Auto were among the laggards. Of 30 Sensex shares, 20 closed higher.
Broader markets, Nifty Smallcap100 and Nifty Midcap100 also lent support to the market.
The Nifty Midcap index gained 0.6% while the Smallcap index closed 0.5% higher. The Midcap index ended higher for the ninth straight day, at the highest level since February 2018. The India Volatility Index ended 0.8% higher at 18.77.
1,110 stocks on the NSE ended with gains while 786 declined.
