West Ham United clinches their first major European title in more than 50 years

They won the UEFA Europa Conference League finals beating ACF Fiorentina 2-1. Their last major European title was the UEFA Cup Winner’s Cup in 1965.

West Ham United made it a memorable day for its fans as they clinched the UEFA Europa Conference League last night in Prague.

The winner of this league gets a direct entry into the UEFA Europa League, which is the second tier of European football after the UEFA Champions League.

West Ham United beat Fiorentina 2-1, thanks to a 90’ minute goal by Jarrod Bowen.

While the first half was quiet, the goal scoring began in the second half as a penalty was awarded to West Ham after a VAR review. Fiorentina were quick to equalise, scoring just 5 minutes after the penalty.

It was a very hard fought game with a number of fouls being committed by both teams which resulted in both the team getting 4 yellow cards respectively.

While it almost looked as if the game was heading to extra-time, Jarrod Bowen turned out to be the man for West Ham as he scored the last minute winner for them.

Fiorentina took 17 shots out of which only 4 were on target. They had 68% of possession and completed a total of 467 passes with an accuracy of 80%.

West Ham United took only 8 shots out of which 4 were on target. They had 32% of the possession and completed 217 passes with an accuracy of 65%.

This was only the second edition of the UEFA Europa Conference League, which started in the 2021/22 season. The first edition was won by AS Roma under Jose Mourinho.
