Gold medallist, Tom Daley, finishes his Olympic cardigan and its winning the internet; see pics

The Olympic gold medallist, national treasure and LGBT icon was caught knitting during the games and its adorable.

Tom Daley, the British gold medalist, has finished his Olympics knitting project and has been winning hearts on the Internet.

The British diver caused a stir on the internet when he was caught knitting during the women’s 3m springboard final, his images went viral soon after.

Tom, 27, has a passion for knitting, and so much that the knitter even has a separate Instagram account dedicated for the things he makes, which he often uses to help raise money for charity. He knits sweaters for his friends, jumpers for dogs, and outfits for his 3-year-old son. Daley’s husband, Academy Award winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black, has even modelled some of the creations on the Instagram page.

The diver, who won his first Olympic gold, has called knitting “his secret weapon” and revealed that knitting and crocheting helped him stay “sane throughout this whole process” of training and competing in the games.

“When I got to Tokyo, I wanted to make something that would remind me of the Olympics to look back on in the future,” Daley said in an Instagram post Thursday. “I designed a pattern for the colour work that would signify everything about these games!”

With the adorable Olympic cardigan not being enough to melt our hearts, Daley has even made to a small push to hold his fancy new medal in:

He also asked his followers to donate to money for The Brain Tumour Charity in memory of his dad Robert, who died in 2011 from a brain tumour.

Tom made his Olympic debut as a 14-year-old in Beijing 2008, with Tokyo marking his fourth Olympic Games, ending his long wait for an Olympic gold with a swift display alongside Matty Lee in a nerve-filled men’s synchronised 10m platform event at Tokyo 2020.
