Disney+Hotstar to stream ODI World Cup, Asia Cup for free for mobile users in India

Disney+Hotstar to make ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 and Asia Cup watchable for free.

The 2023 ICC Cricket World cup and Asia Cup will be viewable for free on the Disney+Hotstar platform. This decision comes after the company had lost streaming rights for Indian Premier League (IPL) earlier this year.

Research firm CLSA estimated that Hotstar’s subscriber base shrank by nearly 5 million due to the fact that Jio Cinema stole streaming rights for the most awaited T20 tournament. The company is focused on reviving it’s viewership by being aware of digital consumption on mobile platforms.

“Disney+ Hotstar has remained at the forefront of the rapidly evolving OTT industry in India and the various innovations we have introduced to continue enhancing the viewer experience has allowed us to delight our audiences across the region,” said Sajith Sivanandan, Head of Disney+ Hotstar.

He added, “making the Asia Cup and ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup available to a wider audience, we believe, will help us grow the overall eco-system.” Taking this step will allow more than 540 million mobile users across India to stream the highly anticipated ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup and Asia Cup for free.

The ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 is scheduled for a start on October 5, 2023, and will proceed through November 19, 2023. The competition will be hosted entirely in India. The Asian Cup 2023 is scheduled to be held in September 2023 as a preparatory series before the 2023 Cricket World Cup.
