Several killed and injured after Bomb Blast during Pro-Palestine rally by Taliban in Pakistan
Thousands of people had gathered for an ‘anti-Israel rally' during which the explosion went off in Balochistan.
A bomb blast has killed at least seven people at a pro-Palestinian rally in the southwestern Pakistani border town of Chaman, police and hospital officials said.
The explosion took place as participants of the rally, organised by a regional religious political party, were dispersing, police official Muhammad Iqbal told.
Thousands of people rallied in support of the Palestinians across Pakistan Friday, hours after a ceasefire was announced between Israel and Hamas, the Islamist group which governs the Gaza Strip.
The rally was organised by political outfit Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Nazaryati (JUI-N). Senior party leaders Abdul Qadir Luni and Qari Mehrullah were leading the rally and are said to be safe.
“The enemies of solidarity with the oppressed Palestinians are on the side of Israeli aggression,” Shahwani said.
Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan condemned the attack. “Terrorist elements do not deserve any leniency. No one will be allowed to disturb the law and order of the province, he said.
No outfit has taken responsibility for the attack. However, Baloch nationalists and Taliban insurgents are active in the area and often carry out such attacks. Footage aired on television channels showed damaged vehicles, shards of glass and blood-soaked shoes and caps scattered around the site.
Friday’s blast comes just weeks after a suicide bombing in the provincial capital of Quetta struck a luxury hotel where the Chinese ambassador was being hosted. That attack was later claimed by the Pakistani Taliban.
