A BJP MLA in Rajasthan’s Udaipur has been booked for allegedly raping a woman on the pretext of marriage. The FIR against Gogunda MLA Pratap Lal Bheel (52) was registered at Sukher police station on Thursday.

The complainant (35), from Neemuch district of Madhya Pradesh, has accused the leader of enticing her into a physical relationship by falsely promising marriage. The MLA said he was not aware of the case registered against him.

“Some years-ago, I had met Bheel in a social function held in Neemuch, where he was a guest; after which we became acquaintances and confided in each other about our dissatisfactory relationship with our partners. Gradually, we became good friends before the MLA proposed me with marriage, which I refused. But he continued to repeat his proposal on several occasion, which I finally accepted on the condition that he will take permission from his family members,” reads the complainant’s statement.

The complainant claimed that the MLA told her that he had parted ways with his first wife with her consent in the presence of community heads but now he refused to marry.

“The medical examination of the victim was conducted and statements were recorded on Thursday,” Udaipur SP Rajeev Pachar said.

The case was referred to the CID, he added.

“The victim is from Madhya Pradesh and has alleged that the MLA promised to marry her and then repeatedly raped her. They belong to the same community and have been in touch for a few years,” another police officer said.
