Former Prasar Bharati CEO Jawhar Sircar nominated by TMC to Rajya Sabha

Jawhar Sircar is a retired Indian Administrative Service officer and former Chief Executive Officer of Prasar Bharati. He has been nominated by the TMC for the upcoming Rajya Sabha election, the party said in a statement on Saturday.

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has nominated retired bureaucrat Jawhar Sircar as its candidate for the upcoming Rajya Sabha by-election in the West Bengal. 

In a tweet from the party announced its decision to nominate the former chief executive officer of Prasar Bharati to the Upper House of Parliament.

Sircar off late has also been know as a critic of BJP and also Central Government’s present policies. Recently, he was vocal on Bengal’s Chief Secretary tussle and is known to be very much powerful in civil servant pressure group. However, TMC feels he can correctly portray the party’s outlook in Rajya Sabha.

The bypoll to the Rajya Sabha seat from West Bengal vacated by Dinesh Trivedi earlier this year are scheduled to be held on August 9.

Dinesh Trivedi had announced his resignation from Rajya Sabha on February 12, saying he feels suffocated in the House as he is unable to do anything for the violence going on in West Bengal. He later joined the BJP.
