Mother, daughter killed as giant billboard falls over SUV in UP
According to the authorities, the accident occurred while the mother and daughter were going to a mall.
A woman and her daughter were killed after a giant billboard fell on their car outside Ekana Stadium, Lucknow on Monday evening. The driver of the car also sustained injuries.
The mother-daughter duo were identified as Preeti Jaggi (38) and Angel (15), residing in the Indira Nagar Colony of Ghazipur Station area. They were going to a mall along with their driver, Sartaj (28) when this incident happened. All three people were rushed to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, where the mother-daughter duo succumbed to their injuries.
Initial reports suggest that the billboard was not structurally up to the mark and it came crashing down during a thunderstorm, onto the SUV, trapping all three people inside. They were then pulled out with the combined help of police, fire department, and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Lucknow South), Vineet Jaiswal told, “A billboard at the Ekana Stadium fell on a SUV due to the thunderstorm. Trapping three people inside, including a mother-daughter duo.”
“The driver is undergoing treatment. Further legal action is being taken”, said the SHO (Sushant Golf City) Atul Kumar Srivastava.
A thunderstorm of 39km/h hit Lucknow around 4:30 pm as reported by Mohammad Danish of the Met Department, Lucknow.
