Out for dinner with his friends in Mumbai’s Oshiwara, Shaw was approached by fans for a selfie. After taking some, the persistent demands for more were denied, as he asked the hotel manager to take charge of the situation.

Prithvi Shaw, the young Indian opener, was chased and then attacked by a group of people after he refused a selfie while having dinner at a five-star hotel in Mumbai.

Out for dinner with his friends in Mumbai’s Oshiwara, Shaw was approached by fans for a selfie. After taking some, the persistent demands for more were denied, as he asked the hotel manager to take charge of the situation.

The fans were asked to vacate the hotel premises, but as many as 8 people, armed with baseball bats, were waiting for Shaw to come out, as they mobbed him, and then chased his car for 10 km.

They also vandalised the car by smashing the window, breaking the windshield, and demanded INR 50,000 to settle the matter; as mentioned in the police complaint.

A complaint was registered by Shaw’s friend and flatmate Ashish Yadav. “Later after having our dinner, when I along with Prithvi and Brijesh came out, we saw that one of the two people was standing with a baseball bat in his hand. And when we were sitting in our car, he came and hit the front glass of his car with the bat,” read Yadav’s statement to the police.

After this, an influencer named Sapna Gill has been arrested and a case has been registered against eight people for rioting, extortion, criminal intimidation and allegedly attacking Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw and his friends.

Shaw has been exceptional in the domestic circuit, and recently made a comeback in the Indian team during the India-New Zealand home T20Is, but couldn’t make it in the playing XI. According to reports, he has been out of the Indian squad for disciplinary reasons.
