High alert in Delhi over possible drone attack ahead of Independence Day, Red Fort shut

As per the alert, terror groups may use explosive-laden drones to carry out attacks in Delhi before August 15 to disrupt Independence Day celebrations or 5th August which marks 2 years of scrapping of article-370.

Security agencies have put the national capital on high alert after intel about a possible terrorist attack in Delhi ahead of the country’s 75th Independence Day on August 15. The alert for Delhi Police has been issued for the period between the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament and August 15.

As per the alert, terror groups may use explosive-laden drones to carry out attacks. Intelligence agencies have warned that terror groups may even strike on August 5 – the day Article 370 was scrapped from Jammu and Kashmir.

The security agencies have said that terrorist groups are hatching a big conspiracy to create unrest in the national capital in the days to come.

Additionally, four anti-drone systems are being installed at the Red Fort this year, as compared to the two anti-drone systems that were set up last year.

According to Delhi Police, it has been reported that certain criminals, anti-social elements or terrorists inimical to India may pose a threat to the safety of the general public, dignitaries and vital installations by using sub-conventional aerial platforms like paragliders, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) or drones, remotely piloted aircraft, hot air balloons, quadcopters or para-jumping from aircraft etc.

The order came several days after two drones dropped bombs at the Indian Air Force station in Jammu. The drone attack in Jammu had made states wary of this new threat.
