Burnt alive for resisting sexual harassment, family of 20-year-old carries corpse in hope of justice for their daughter

In a shocking incident reported from Bihar, a 20-year-old girl Gulnaz Khatoon was allegedly burnt alive after she resisted sexual harassment by the accused. The incident took place in Rasoolpur village under Desari police station of Vaishali district in Bihar on October 30.

The girl was set ablaze when she went to dispose of the garbage outside her house. The victim was reportedly dragged by three persons including the father of the accused, and set on fire after pouring kerosene on her. The girl had sustained around 75 per cent burn injuries.

The victim’s family alleged that Vijai Rai, his sons Satish Rai and Chandan Kumar Rai were involved in the heinous act. After the ghastly incident, the victim was admitted to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) where she succumbed to her injuries on November 15.

A video of the victim naming her tormentor from the hospital bed has gone viral from social media. In the alleged video statement to police, the victim said, “I was going to throw garbage around 6 pm when Satish Rai, son of Vinay Rai poured kerosene over me and set ablaze.”

One of the accused Chandan Rai has been arrested by Vaishali Police in Bihar. The police informed that efforts are on to nab co-accused Vinay Rai and his son Satish Rai.

In her dying statement, she named Satish, his father Vinay, and cousin brother Chandan. The video statement of the victim went viral on the social media, wherein she alleged that Satish had set her on fire while Vinay and Chandan helped him commit the crime.
