Bandra-Worli sea link: 5 dead, many injured as 4 cars including ambulance collide

In a dreadful incident that was recorded on CCTV cameras at least 5 people were reported dead and as many as 8 others were seriously injured when speeding cars collided on Mumbai’s Bandra-Worli sea link during the wee hours of Wednesday.

The incident become this big when an ambulance present on site to take the victims of a previous accident was hit by a series of speeding vehicles one followed by others.

As explained by the employees working at the sea link’s toll, the first crash took place when a car was moving towards the south end of the road at a high speed, after which one of their colleagues along with an ambulance had rushed to the spot of the accident. However, just when they were rescuing the victims from the previous crash a speeding car came and hit the ambulance and the surrounding personnel which was followed by another car.

The injured were rushed to the hospital. Sadly 5 out of those were declared dead on arrival, while others are being treated as of now. PM Modi offered his deepest condolences and tweeted, “Pained by the loss of lives due to an accident on the Bandra-Worli Sea Link in Mumbai. Condolences to the bereaved families. I hope that those who have been injured have a speedy recovery.”

Following the incident, police took over and suspended the use of the link from Bandra to Worli till the time crisis could be managed.
