India records 5,335 COVID cases in a day, active infections reach 25,587 as virus hikes again

As the tally reaches highest in 8 months, civilians hope its not the beginning of another wave.

India reported 5,335 fresh covid cases today in past 24 hours, a jump of nearly 1,000 cases from yesterday’s tally. This is the highest single day rise since September 23 after 195 days.

Active cases went up by 2,496 and recoveries by 2,826. The total active cases in the country stood at 25,587. The daily positivity rate is pegged at 3.32% while the weekly positivity rate stands at 2.89%, the ministry said.

Among the states, Kerala had 8,229 active cases, Delhi 1,795 and Maharashtra 3,874.

Over than 2.2 billion doses of Covid vaccines have been administered so far, of which 1,993 were given in the past 24 hours. The total tally of Covid cases stands at 4.47 crore (4,47,39,054), according to the ministry.

Delhi on Wednesday saw slightly lesser daily Covid-19 cases as compared to a day before in the last 24 hours with 509 fresh infections. On Tuesday, the national capital reported 521 cases. According to the data released by the Delhi health department, the positivity rate currently stands at 26.54 percent with 1,795 active cases.
