Mumbai man slits throat of wife for not wearing burqa and following Islamic traditions

The 36-year-old man killed his 20-year-old Hindu wife who used to live alone with their infant due to the harassment.

Over 81 people have been killed in Iran in anti-Hijab protests but in a similar horrific incident, a man belonging to the Muslim community killed his wife, who is from the Hindu community for allegedly refusing to wear a burqa and following Islamic tradition in Tilak Nagar area of Mumbai on Monday night.

According to the report, the victim Rupali and the accused had been married for three years and had a son to look after. She changed her name to Zara. “Her family told us she was living separately, with their son, for the past few months because Iqbal Sheikh’s family used to pressure her to wear the burqa. We are investigating,” said Vilas Rathod, area police in-charge.

Disturbed by all this, when Rupali finally wanted to divorce Iqbal, and refused to give the custody of their child to Iqbal, the two again fought in which Iqbal murdered Rupali.

“At around 10 pm on September 26, a man identified as Iqbal Mohammad Sheikh killed his wife by slitting her throat and injuring her hands with a knife.” said the police.

A case under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered, he added.
