Gynaecologist commits suicide over harassment from patient’s family

A suicide note was recovered from the scene in which the doctor wrote that the patient had died during a normal procedure. Following the suicide, doctors in Rajasthan were furious and are demanding proper actions against the guilty for allegedly abetting the suicide.

A gynaecologist purportedly ended it all by hanging herself, after an FIR was recorded against her under area 302 of the IPC (murder) for the alleged death of a pregnant lady who she was treating. A suicide note was recovered from the scene where the specialist wrote that the patient had died during a normal procedure. The perished specialist has been recognized as Dr Archana Sharma (42).

Following the suicide, doctors in Rajasthan were furious and are demanding proper actions against the guilty for allegedly abetting the suicide.

As per the information, a 22-year old woman was brought to her medical clinic in labour torment on Sunday night. The patient’s condition deteriorated apparently because of excessive bleeding after which she died. Asserting carelessness, the family members of the perished raised a demand for section 302 against the specialist on Tuesday and she was booked.

In the interim, her self suicide note, which is circulating the web via social media, says that the patient had passed on during the typical strategy and that her family ought not to be tortured post her demise. “I love my kids a lot and have not killed anyone. Don’t harass innocent doctors,” she said in the note adding, “Please don’t let my kids feel the void of a mother. This act of mine shall perhaps prove my innocence,” she added.

Indian Medical Association’s Rajasthan branch has called for a 24-hour medical bandh over the doctor’s suicide in Dausa.

In a letter to Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, the resident doctors union – Federation of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA) has sought proper investigation, as well as immediate withdrawal of the FIR, filed against the doctor. The federation has also sought compensation for the family of the deceased – Dr Archana Sharma.

Police said that they have recovered a suicide note, however, they cannot give any further information as the investigation is underway.
