The Varanasi MP MLA court has convicted jailed Gangster turned Politician, ex-MLA, Mukhtar Ansari from Mau in the Awadhesh Rai murder case. in which Congress leader and brother of former MLA Ajay Rai, Awadhesh Rai was killed on August 3rd, 1991 after being shot outside his house in Varanasi.
Mukhtar Ansari, a five-time MLA from Uttar Pradesh had been accused of murdering Awadhesh Rai. Ajay Rai had lodged an FIR against Mukhtar Ansari, Bhim Singh and former MLA Abdul Kalim.
Reacting to the development, Ajay Rai said, “This is the end of our many years of waiting. I, my parents, Awadhesh’s daughter and the whole family kept patience… Governments came and went and Mukhtar strengthened himself.”
“But we did not give up. Because of our lawyers’ efforts, today the court has found Mukhtar guilty in the murder case of my brother,” Rai added
Mukhtar Ansari already has multiple criminal cases against him. According to UP police dossier, the family of Mukhtar Ansari has over 36 cases filed against them.
He was recently in April, convicted by a MP-MLA court in Ghazipur for the 2005 kidnapping-murder case of Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) Krishnanand Rai in which he was sentenced to jail for 10 years and was given a 5 lakh rupee fine.
