Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday received the first dose of Covid-19 vaccine, Covaxin, indigenously developed by Bharat Biotech International Limited, at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi. The Prime Minister tweeted that he got the first dose and urged those eligible to get vaccinated.

India will expand its vaccination programme today to cover people over 60 and those over 45 with co-morbidities amid a growing number of more infectious virus strains and a spurt in cases.

Registration on the Co-WIN2.0 portal will open at 9 am today. Citizens will be able to register and book an appointment for vaccination, anytime and anywhere, using the Co-WIN 2.0 portal or through other IT applications such as Arogya Setu.

The prime minister also posted a picture of himself taking the first dose of the vaccine in which he is seen sporting an Assamese ‘gamocha’ and getting inoculated with a smile on his face.

Sister Niveda and a second nurse, Rosamma Anil from Kerala can be seen in the picture posted by PM Modi. “It is very nice to see sir. Only today morning we came to know that the Prime Minister would be coming for vaccination. It was nice to see him, he was very comfortable,” Sister Rosamma told DD news.

The Prime Minister chatted with them briefly and asked where they were from, said sister Niveda said “After taking the vaccine, the Prime Minister remarked ‘Oh it’s done, I did not even realise it’,” she said.

As per people aware of the development, the PM went to AIIMS without any restrictions imposed on traffic. He chose an early morning slot to ensure there was no inconvenience to people.
