Delhi logged a record 6,725 fresh cases of coronavirus on Monday — the highest daily tally since the outbreak reached the national capital. The city has been reporting more than 5,000 cases for most of the last week.

The latest Delhi health bulletin said that the positivity rate stands at 11.29 per cent. Forty-eight patients succumbed to the deadly contagious virus in the last 24 hours, pushing the fatality count to 6,652.

Following this exponential return in the rise of Coronavirus cases, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has sidelined the issue by claiming they are facing the ‘third wave’ of the pandemic in the city.

India has reported 46,253 fresh Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours. The total caseload now stands at 8,313,876. The country’s death toll has mounted to 123,579.

Scientists had warned that low temperature, coupled with increasing pollution levels, could lead to an exponential spike in coronavirus cases in Delhi and seems like due to no precautions by the government, the people will now have to face all issues at once.

The air quality in the national capital remained in the ‘very poor’ category for the fourth consecutive day, as per the data from Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) on Tuesday.

According to experts, the very poor category affects the health of people and seriously impacts those with existing diseases.

To tackle the rising air pollution, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had launched the “Green Delhi” app last week, which would enable people to register complaints about violation of anti-pollution norms.
