50-year-old Pune man donates Plasma 14 times, saves many lives
Ajay Munot contracted COVID-19 in June last year. He said his repeated donations should help remove the misconceptions from the minds of those who have recovered from COVID-19.
Ajay Munot, a strategic Consultant by profession from Pune has registered his name in the India Book of Records for donating plasma 14 times. But the 50-year-old has no plans to stop here and is ready to do the noble deed again for the 15th time as the second wave of Covid-19 has only fuelled the demand for the life-saving blood.
Munot, who recovered from COVID-19 in June 2020, donated his first plasma 28 days after recovery to a patient’s family which was searching for a plasma donor, Indian Express reported.
“I am the first person in the country to donate my plasma 14 times,” claims Ajay Munot as he shows a certificate given to him by India Book of Records.
The certificate reads, “Congratulations, your claim has been finalised as ‘Maximum plasma donation by an individual under India Book of Records, 2022. We appreciate the effort and patience shown by you. Your skills have been acknowledged and as per the verification done by the Editorial Board of India Book of Records, only the best selected and approved by us.”
His other notable contribution was to a critically ill woman patient whose son tried several blood banks and approached donors who backed out after initially agreeing to help. The man then found Ajay’s number through the police commissioner where the 50-year-old strategic consultant was a registered donor.
Even now when the need for plasma donors is on an all-time high, Munot aims to remove the misconception about making numerous donations. He said, “Though I have donated plasma for 14 days, I have never felt weak or uneasy. People have false notions that blood is taken out during plasma donation. Plasma is separated from the blood. Plasma contains antibodies. Plasma donation is not blood donation.”
