Anand Mahindra rolls out ‘Oxygen on Wheels’ in Maharashtra to transport oxygen from plant to homes and hospitals

Anand Mahindra, Chairman of the Mahindra Group, has announced that the company has lined up around 70 Bolero pickup trucks to deliver oxygen cylinders. He took to social media to announce the initiative. Under the initiative, Mahindra will utilise trucks to connect oxygen producers with hospitals and/or homes. In order to help more and more people, an operations control centre has also been established and a direct-to-consumer model is being conceived.

Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra posted a series of tweets about the initiative:

An operations control Centre has been established and the storage location is replenished from the local refilling plant. A direct-to-consumer model is being conceived.

“I made a commitment to @CMOMaharashtra on Tuesday and in just 48 hours the @Mahindralog_MLL team launched the program in Pune and Chakan with 20 Boleros,” he said.

He further said that 61 jumbo cylinders have already been delivered to 13 hospitals in urgent need. I’m deeply grateful to the team.

Meanwhile, Jindal Stainless Ltd will airlift medical oxygen from its plant in Odisha to Hisar in Haryana. The first batch of 14.79 tonnes was dispatched on Saturday night from the Odisha facility, the firm said in a statement.

The company’s plant in Hisar has been operating at 150 per cent of its capacity, producing 9 tonnes of medical oxygen per day, the statement said. As Covid cases rise in Haryana, the firm estimates that oxygen demand in Hisar will increase. In the last few days, the daily consumption of medical oxygen in Hisar has doubled to 18 tonnes, the firm said.

RIL now produces more than 11 per cent of India’s total production of medical-grade liquid oxygen at its Jamnagar facility in Gujarat and other plants. With this, the conglomerate is meeting the needs of nearly every 1 in 10 patients in India.
